846 | Seller to Buyer |
An 846 Inventory Advice transaction is an electronic document used in supply chain management to share information about product inventory levels. Businesses, such as suppliers or manufacturers, send this message to customers, retailers, or distributors to report how much stock is available, what items are in stock, and where they are located. It helps companies manage their inventory, avoid running out of products, and plan their orders better.
An 846 is a stand along document that is sent to buyers outside of the typical Order to Cash workflow. Buyers will typically ask you keep them up to date with your inventory levels by sending them an 846 EDI Transaction on an agree upon schedule (hourly, daily, weekly).
